Question

My Mouse's Cuts
I have two mice and one of them is covered in cuts. The cuts cover her shoulders and upper back area but the other one is fine. When I first bought her she was fine but after about half a year I first started noticing the cuts and then they gradually got worse. Is there anything I can do about the cuts?

Answer
Dear Jenna,

If they had just been introduced I would say bites, but if they have been together 6 months that should not be happening.

Although my best guess is that she is biting herself because of mites, it would be best to consult a vet. A vet can usually take a skin sample to see what the problem is.

If you really can't get her to the vet, the best thing to do is treat for mites and hope that was it.  Here is a link which describes treating for mites at home.

Rather than spraying her, i recommend you spray the liquid into a dish and use your hands. You will be trying both to soak her fur and avoid the cuts. This will take some skill and I suggest somebody else hold the mouse.

Good luck.
