Do the males or females come on heat?

I have a dad mouse and one of his baby boys(7 weeks old) trying to eat their way through my door to get to the female mice.  I also have other males(only 4 weeks old) with them but they arent interested in the females.

Just wondered if it was the males who were ready for mating or if the females are giving off some kind of smell that is driving them wild?

The females range from 1 year to 7 weeks old.

Dear Sandra,

Female mice come into heat every 3-6 days.  A male nearby will smell that and want to get into the cage.  Your 4 week old males aren't old enough to mate; give them another week and they ought to start to be interested as well.  You might want to put the cages farther apart to relieve the stress on the males.
