mouse mites?

Question
I have a brown and white mouse, who is scratching and has a
runny eye, I believe he has mites. We use shredded paper as
shavings, and he lives in an 10gl. aquarium.  I was
wondering if I could dilute dog/cat flea/tick spray? I am a
single mom who has lost my job, and has no money to bring my
daughters lil critter to see the vet.  Please help me.

Dear Virginia,

You can treat for mites at home. Don't get something meant for another kind of a pet unless you know what you are doing-- these medications are very poisonous. Hopefully your pet store carries 8 in 1 rodent flea and tick spray, which should cost less than $10.00.
