Dose of tetracycline

Question
I bought Tetracycline for my mice but it is in powder packets and I was wondering how much I should put in the water bottle. I have a 4oz water bottle and there is 500mg of tetracycline in each packet. Would it be better for me to get a bigger bottle or different medicine?
Thank you for your time, Alexis.

Answer
Dear Alexis,

For a 4 oz bottle I would recommend no more than 1/2 of a 250 mg (1/4 tsp) capsule, which would be 1/8 tsp of powder, or 1/16 of your packet of powder.

If you do not want to use the teaspoon measure, then you can pour out the powder onto a flat surface, take a flat knife and push together and cut it exactly into 1/2; push half away and divide that 1/2 pile into exactly 1/2 as well, which will be 1/4. You will divide the powder exactly 4 times in total to get 1/16 of the original amount.

Don't forget to do an initial jump-start dose by making a mustard-like paste with the powder and getting a blob into her mouth or smearing it on the back of her ears or her face so she will lick it off.

Best of luck and health to the sneezing mouse !
