Naughty Puppy

Question
We have a 4 month old Maltese, she is a lovely puppy, energetic and smart
but we are having some behavioral problems. First off she bites me
constantly, she attached herself to my pants every time she can and bites our
fingers whenever she plays. Secondly whenever we come home or she sees
someone she likes she pees everywhere! Not just dribbles but a lot of pee, we
are mopping our floors all the time. She won't stay in her kennel all night
after 2 months of crate training and she is still having accidents right in front
of us. Do we have a naughty puppy? Are we doing something wrong?
Sincerely,
Jenna

Answer
Hi Jenna,
With the biting try this:
Put the end of her leash gently over a doorknob.
Play with her and as soon as she bites you, say, "Ouch!" and walk away from her. Come back and talk to her while you are walking towards her "Good girl, thanks for not biting me!" and repeat the exercise. If she is just out of control, put her in her crate for 15+ minutes to calm down.

The peeing is something called Submissive Urination. There are four specific triggers: touching, looming, talking to her and eye contact. When you approach her don't loom over her and pet her wildly, take her immediately outside. If she doesn't go, put her in the crate and try again in 15-30 minutes.

With the overall house training difficulties, use the crate more, write down her bathroom times and make sure you reward her heavily for going in the correct location.

I have a lot more house training answers at AllExperts as well. Hope this helps.
