Problem Feeding 2 male dogs in same house

Question
We adopted an abandoned male Chocolate lab - Nik- 8 weeks ago. He is approximately 10 mos old. Not neutered (yet). We  own a 4 year old male lab poodle mix Riley - who is neutered. They make great companions - EXCEPT at feeding.      The problem in feeding: We feed them dry food in the early morning and again at evening. Problem is Nik wants to take everything away from Riley. Nik eats very fast   and Riley was used to taking his time eating. Nik will even run fast  between bowls (even if they are in separated rooms!) and try to eat  all the food out of both bowls at once.
Riley will basically step aside as Nik plows through.
I tried feeding Nik outside- but he eats fast and then howls as if he somehow knows I am trying to feed Riley. If I feed riley outside Nik howls to go out. If I tether or crate Nik inside -- he howls.  Then  when Nik howls, Riley seems a bit nervous and stops eating. One day Riley actually carried some o f his own food nibbles IN and set by Nik while he was tethered (as if to shut him up!).
Feeding time is becoming an issue. I have been sneaking Riley off in my bed room to eat his food in paec  while trying to distract Nik.   I do not want to feed riley in my room.
I do not know what else to try.  I plan to have Nik neutered soon - but wonder if this will solve this problem.

Nik takes everything away from Nik (chews, toys etc) but if Riley really wants it he will take it back from Nik.
The food is another story.

Thank you for your input.

Answer
What would happen if you made meal time a training session for Nik, while Riley eats in peace. Put Nik on leash and engage him and ask him to work for his dinner. If he's on leash, he can't steal Riley's food. If he's engaged with you he's not going to be howling. An added side benefit is that he learns to work for what he wants, which enhances his bond with you and teaches self control. You can dispense the food slowly enough that Riley has plenty of time to eat. Neutering can sometimes take the edge off a dog, but it never really accomplishes as much as training will.
