Best Dog Clippers?

Question
Hi,  I have a 20# mixed breed (probably poodle/terrier) that I want to learn how to groom.  I have an old Oster clipper set with slip on guards and 1 dull blade.  Should I get this blade sharpened or buy a new clipper(what kind?)?  Also, what nail trimmer is best?  Thanks

Answer
You should invest in a Oster A5 clipper.  The clipper you have you can not change the metal blade.  With the A5 you can change the blade to different lengths.  If you use the one you have, you must have the blade sharpened and would only be able to use a snap on comb.  This means the dog must be 100% matt free.  Metal blades go through a coat much easier then the combs. Alot depends too, on how long you want the coat.  If you want to leave it longer, you must use the combs. Metal blades -#4 will leave the coat about 1/2-3/4 inch long.  You will be able to experment more with the A5.
The best nail trimmers are the pliers type.  NOT the gulotene (sp?) type. This type tends to crush the nail much more.
