White German Shepard Ears

Question
We have 2 white german shepherds?  They are 2 months old.  The female has one ear that is turning down. What can we do about this?  We have been told it could be because they are teething.  We were also told that it could be a lack of calcium.

Answer
There is a lot of speculation about ears that don't stand up, but little reliable information.  I think the best thing is to maintain the diet known to produce sturdy joints, which also need the correct level of calcium.  You should have been feeding a puppy chow.  Even the large breed puppy chows tend to be a little high in calcium.  The best thing is to switch to an adult chow at 4 months, making sure is 1.5% calcium or LESS.  Too much calcium interferes with the body using it.

You also want to keep the puppy lean, usually easy with German Shepherds.  Sometimes you have to endure them not eating enough to keep their ribs hidden.  If so, that is fine.
