QuestionDear Ann , My wife and I have three kids and and we have been researching
BC's for quite a while and have met a few , Beautiful dogs , I have been
getting mixed reviews on which line makes better pets ! British ,Australian ,
etc. I realize that they are all high energy but I am looking to get one that
may be on the calmer side. I am a custom builder and I would also like to
have my dog come with me every day when its not too cold or hot. We are an
active family and I know a BC would work with us but i am not looking for an
intense worker or herder . I was told the British line was a better family pet.
What are your thoughts . thank you so much for your time Ann. Steve.
AnswerHello Steve,
I appreciate your question, but frankly the generalization between British and Australian bred Border Collies would not help influence my decision. Rather, I would look for a Border Collie that has shown little interest in herding livestock. I live in the US so I do not personally know any breeders in any other country. You may even want to consider a Border Collie mix if you're only looking for a pet.
Thank you for your question.
