Question
I have recently lost a much loved cocker named 'Lady' She was 12 when she died, but I didn't get her untill she was 6mths and already trained. But I can say that she was an absoulute pleasure to have had.
My husband has since bought me new Male Cocker named 'Buster'. Well, I have had him since he was 8 weeks old and he is an absoulute NIGHTMARE! He will do nothing he is told, people don't want to come over as he is impossible to control when we have visitors! He bites all the time, barks all the time, jumps up, srounges and pulls on the lead when walked and is just crazy and out of control- which makes me the same!
My Daughter has recently got herself a new puppy and since she has had thepuppy 'Buster' has been very aggressive towards her 3 year old Daughter, growling and trying to bite her hands. I do realise that I have spoiled him and alot of his behavior is because of him being spoiled, but why the aggression? He is now 12 mths old.

I hope you can help me.

Many Thanks,
Alison

Answer
Neuter him if not already.  It is no cure all, but must be done to fix the problem.  Then obedience train him.  The dogs see all the
people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in
the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members
outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by
reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class
or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with
a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/  If this doesn't help much in a month or 2, get back and I will suggest some specific cures.
