Question
Hello,
I have a cocker mix that was given to me and when we got home, the dog would pee and poop without control. I took her to the vet and after an Xray, found she had a small crack in pelvis (which happened from a bad blow to her back side)and needed lots of rest. It's been several months and she is better but, not normal. I walk her a lot and she is starting to pee on the grass now, however, the poop still falls out without her knowledge. She is starting to wag her tail a little too. So, my question is, is there a possibility she may never have feeling in her rump. And, if so, what else should I do or look in to??

Answer
You restore my faith in people, Loretta.  Your kindness, patience and concern over this girl is what dog owners "should" be like but, unfortunately, enough aren't.

I'd think her wagging her tail and peeing appropriately is a very good sign.  For sure I'd be taking her outside on a logical schedule and lots of praise & reward if she manages to go outside.

I'd also be consulting a neurologist (your vet can refer you and send her x-rays).  It's also quite possible that acupuncture or chiropractic treatment may help.

Has your own vet taken any further x-rays?  Did she need pain management medication?

If you'd like to write me directly (DeeBeck7765@aol.com) and tell me what city you live in we could investigate what specialists and holistic vets are available to you.  Plus do a little research
on her condition.  Being informed and asking the right questions are invaluable when dealing with vets.
