Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old female, spayed, purebred pitbull named blue.I have had her for 5 days now and she seems to be afraid of everything.noises doors, the broom, going into the back yard .She gets really enthusiastic about her walks but that seems to be the only thing that she likes. She doesnt play with toys or my kids.I just dont know what to do for her. Please help!

Answer
Hi Cherice, Do you know anything about her past?  Since she responds well to the walks, take her for many walks at the heel. This will engage her mind and body.  Expose her to as many different sights and sounds of the world as possible.  She needs lots of socialization now so that she does not become a fear biter.  This is very important for any dog, but especially her breed.  If she is a rescue, she may have been beaten, fought, who knows what. Establish yourself as her pack leader that will teach her, protect her, and be fair to her.  She will come out of her shell much faster if you go for runs with her on a lead at the heel, on walks at the heel, greets and meets other dogs, and gets to know about the world with you. Do not feel bad for her and coddle her while you are encouraging her, it will make her feel that you are weak and you need to build her confidence. Please leave me some feedback, and keep me posted on your progress. Thanks for writing. Regards, Susan
