Mature Dog Pees in House While Im Gone

My 9 year old German Shorthaired Pointer has been potty trained his whole life.  Recently, he began peeing in the house while I'm gone.  It's gotten so bad he pretty much does it every day - but only when I'm gone.  On the weekends when I'm home all day, he'll stay in the house for 10-12 hours without going out and without peeing in the house.  But I can go to the corner store for 1/2 hour and return to a puddle on one of the rugs in the house.  He knows he's done something bad, because he puts his tail between his legs and slinks off to his dog bed.  My husband doesn't think it is a medical problem because he can hold it for so long when we're home.  I feed Iams mini chunks and have done so consistently since I got him from the humane society.  Oh, and he is VERY intelligent.  Can you help us?

Hi Kris, Some of the IAMs products were on the recall list, so you might want to check it out as well as a possible uti. Are you giving him plenty of exercise either walking or running at the heel every day? I have found with most of my clients that this not only exercises their minds and bodies, but it helps to establish the leadership bond which is so important. It does sound as though he is trying to get your attention. How log ago did you get him from the Humane Society? Send me some feedback, more information and follow-up anytime you wish.
