Question
My daughter's Border Collie had 9 puppies yesterday, one dies, this is her second litter. She hasn't gotten up since she had them about 24 hours ago, she eats if we put food in the kennel next to her, but she hasn't come out to eat or drink, she can reach the water from the kennel if she sticks her head out. My question is, should we be worried? Last litter she couldn't wait to get away from them, so this is diffenert for her. Thanks

Answer
Hey, Shelly,

This sounds more like a medical question than a behavioral one, but if she were my dog, yes I'd be a little worried and would probably call the vet. The fact that she's eating is a good sign. So it could be that this birth was harder on her than the previous one and that she'll bounce back in a couple of days.
It's Sunday morning, so your vet's office probably won't be open till tomorrow, but I'd keep an eye on her and contact the vet on Monday morning.

Good luck! I hope it's nothing serious.
