my pet licks the carpet constantly, why?

my Pekingese licks my carpet every time he comes in from outside and when he wakes up. he licks the carpet constantly. what is wrong with my dog?

Some dogs lick out of boredom, others because someone dropped crumbs on the carpet a week ago!  Dogs that have been taught not to lick people, may decide to lick other things.  Some dogs do it just to entertain themselves or because the sensation is pleasant to them.  There's really no way to know why your particular dog does it, but those are some possibilities.  Unless it becomes obsessive, it's probably harmless.
