Question
Hello Lee

Thank you in advance for you advice here...

My wife and I have an 8 yr old make Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier who is driving us crazy.
Last summer we took in an exchange student (male Teen) and our dog is non stop barking at the poor boy in the home (he also does not let the student leash him)
I see the dog as way too protective of his home my wife and I and he "guards" the house. Our dog does not bite but just goes up and barks constantly at the student. Our dog even guards his room door.
I see this a make dominant Alpha dog behavior as protecting his home...we need to change this but our do seems set in his ways! he has lived with just my wife and I for 7 years!
What can we do?? please help!

Answer
By the way, don't try playing tug until the dog's attitude toward teh student starts to soften. Anytime you're trying to get any dog to play tug you have to make sure the dog views it as a game, and doesn't take it too seriously. My feeling though, is that with your dog, he won't even play until after he's had a few weeks of walking with and being hand fed by your exchange student.

Best of luck!

And thanks for the great rating!
