Question
Hi I have a 9 month old Rotti. He was the first born and pretty dominant. He is a sweet dog but if you try to take anything away from him he growls and then if you get trying hard to get it away from him he will bite you....chicken bones, paper towels, shoes etc. We are expecting a baby soon which makes me very nervous. He is a great dog but I will not risk the life of my child. Do you know of any behavior specialists in the New England area? We are in NH but are willing to drive far to see if we can fix our pup...or we need to have someone evaluate him...we just do not know who.  Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Hi rachel,

I aggree with you. a dog that guards and bites may not be suited to a house with a young child. That he is young may work in your favor, but my experience has been guarding is innate not learned as we would like to think it is.

Try www.ccpdt.com to find someone to do an in home assessment. Make sure they are familiar with both the breed and the problem.
