Question
Tootsie Roll is 11 yrs old and beginning in Dec 2007 I observed she was having difficulty coming in the doggie door. I now open the patio door and let her out and she would come in on her own. Now she will not even go to the door to go out and once I put her out I call her to come in and reacts as if she is scared or just sits and barks and I have to pick her up and bring her in. She also has started at times panting which woke me up and noticed she had urinated in our bed, was panting very heavy, so I gave her water and put her back to bed and she seemed fine. I phoned the Vet and they said she probaly got to warm and keep an eye on her. I am very concerned now that she won't come in from the backyard. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Answer
IMMEDIATELY find another veterinarian.  It's unconscionable for any staff member of any veterinarian to give such idiotic advice.  Your dog needs to see a good Veterinarian ASAP.  She may be in pain, may have suffered a stroke, may be suffering from some other sudden reaction to illness.  This sudden change in behavior appears to definitely be indication of physical illness.
