Question
hi. please help - i have a 4 mo old american bulldog - and when i leave him in the kennel during my workday or when im out for a run or anything - i come home and he is covered in saliva and the bottom of the kennel is literally drenched. i know that stress causes this but do i have a reason to be concerned? dehydration? he has access to water but i'm concerned because its a massive amount and im worried he might have a panic attack or something when im at work. thanks for your help.

Answer
It isn't humane to cage a dog for many more than three hours at a time.  This is a very young dog who is greatly suffering from this experience.  You need to find another way to contain him, such as in the kitchen with a gate, or even the bathroom with a gate.  Housetraining doesn't require a crate, it requires consistent positive reinforcement for appropriate elimination in the place provided (outdoors.)  The dog is not only suffering physically and mentally, but he's suffering psychologically and developmentally.
