Question
I have two miniature poodles. They are eight months old. They were eating dog food and all of a sudden, as the family began giving them of our food, they lost their appetite for dog food. Now they don't want to eat other than our food. I don't know what to do. I have changed their dog food, and I have left them starve for hours (although I think is not enough. I become heart-broken).

Answer
No healthy dog will starve itself to death. You have effectively trained your dogs to refuse dog food in lieu of human food.  In order to get them back on a HEALTHY DIET (human food does not contain the nutrients, unless you cook for these dogs specially and add nutritionally charged ingredients), you must, effectively, refuse them ANYTHING other than dog food.  Choose a high quality dry dog food.  Put it down two times a day (to begin with, once they're acclimated you can free feed), morning and early evening, for FIFTEEN MINUTES.  DO NOT OFFER any other food, treats, table scraps, etc.  Put the food down for fifteen minutes twice daily, then remove it without comment.  Within a few days, your dogs WILL begin to eat what is nutritionally designed to support them.  Continue to feed twice daily for several weeks, until you see that they are willingly eating.  Then allow free feeding (if you choose). NO DOG will intentionally starve itself.
