Question
I have a very spoiled Pomeranian, who has eaten human food for most of her life and im trying to get her to start eating more dog food, instead of all human food, and she does not seem to be takeing very well to this. The only way that she will eat the dog food is if i hand feed it to her piece by piece. i dont mind feeding her but, i cant feed her all the time. ive been told by some other ppl to just wait and if she gets hungry enough shell eat it, but i dont want her to be hungry at all. Any ideas on how i can get her to eat dog food on her on.

Answer
The advice you've been given by friends is correct.  No psychologically and physically sound dog will starve itself to death.  You're also correct in starting your dog on a very high quality dog food (not supermarket variety), even adding a bit of canned food (providing you read labels very carefully), instead of human food (as the nutrition is not even close to adequate.)  You're actually doing your dog a great service by expecting her to eat food designed for her species.  The best approach is (initially) to feed the dog three times daily for 15 minutes each time.  Simply put the food down and walk away.  Be certain to pick it up after 15 minutes.  Repeat this until you observe the dog beginning to eat.  Do not interfere, comment, or in any way interact with the dog when she is eating, as this might precipitate a failure (since she will be anticipating your adding something, etc.)  Eventually she WILL eat, even though it might take what seems an interminably long time.  After she is happily eating, you can choose to free feed (leave the food available all day) or feed twice daily, morning and late afternoon.
