chocolate labradors temperment

Question
I have an enthusiastic, happy female chocolate lab.  A friend said that the chocolate gene made these labs a bit "crazy", not easy to train, and so only black labs, for example, are used in police work.  Any truth in this?  Many thanks, Loran

Answer
Hi, Loran,

Thanks for the question.

In my experience I think it's true that chocolate Labs are a bit more energetic as puppies. But as far as I know there's no color distinction used to determine which dogs are good candidates for any kind of training, be it search-and-rescue or guide dogs for the blind. Most trainers only consider the working temperament of the individual dog, not the color of their coat.

Your friend is a bit misinformed.

It sounds like you've got a great dog!
