Dog spilling the water!

Question
Hi. My 3 months old Labrador Retriever loves to spill water from his bowl. It happens every time he is around it. So as soon as I give him fresh water, he will drink a little and the rest of water will be on the floor in matter of seconds. Then he will lie in it. It is frustrating to top up his bowl constantly and to have wet dog all the time! Also I am concern to leave the house and leave him alone for any time because he will spill everything and then will have no water for later. I changed the bowls recently, now he has big metal one with rubber around it. Well, the same day he ate the rubber, and is just pushing the bowl to spill everything anyway not leaving anything. Can you help me please? (He is generally well behaved puppy, I train him, he follows the commands like sit etc. and is willing to learn. I just don't know what to do in this case). I will greatly appreciate your help.

Answer
The Labrador is a water retrieving dog; puppies commonly develop these behaviors with water bowls.  Some grow out of it.  There are water bowls built into wooden platforms, making it impossible for the dog to remove/tilt/spill out the water.  There are also self watering containers, extremely heavy and impossible for a puppy that age to manipulate with his mouth.  I would try one of those, first.  You can also put several ice cubes into a heavy plastic bowl if you are leaving the house and it is a very hot day.  Pet Solutions has a Kool Dogz Ice Treat Maker, item #75900650, you might investigate: PetSolutions.com
