The Importance of Rabbit Toys

Rabbits, like all mammals, need constant mental stimulation in order to lead healthy and active lives. You're bunny needs to be constantly stimulated by his environment. If you are away from home for a good part of the day, or your rabbit doesn't have any bunny companions to keep him company, it is imperative that you provide some toys for your rabbit to keep him stimulated and occupied.

Good rabbit toys are beneficial to your rabbit for several reasons. As just mentioned, toys are necessary to provide your rabbit with a stimulating environment. Toys are also great at deterring your rabbit from chewing on things around the house that you don't want him to chew on, like furniture or power cables. Equally as important, good toys are a great source of exercise for your rabbit. It is vital that your rabbit exercise each day. Exercise is a cornerstone of good health for all creatures, rabbits included!

There are near-endless possibilities when it comes to choosing rabbit toys for your bunny. A free, easy way to provide your rabbit with some entertainment is to give him some paper bags to play with. You can also use cardboard rolls from the insides of paper towels, phone books, colorful plastic bottle caps, cat toys, parrot toys, or even baby toys (be sure not to use teething baby toys though!). If they end up eating the cardboard toys you are providing for them, you will want to switch to other, less edible types of food.

You can provide them with jungle gym type toys, or anything they can climb up, because rabbits enjoy climbing and being in high positions. Basically, as long as you provide your rabbit with a safe, non-toxic play thing, you will be doing him a huge favor. A well entertained rabbit is a happy rabbit, and a happy rabbit livens the mood of your entire home!
