How to Take Care of Rabbits

When thinking about buying or raising rabbits, it's really important to learn how to take care of rabbits. They're not your typical house pet, although they can be very loving and affectionate. Let's look at some general things to keep in mind when learning how to take care of rabbits.

Of course, learning what rabbits eat is very important. Hay and grass is one of the biggest sources of nutrition you can feed your bunnies. Not only is it very healthy for a rabbit, it also gives them something to chew on, since rabbits are fond of chewing.

Fresh water is also very important. Rabbits love water, and though those with a more green diet may not necessarily need to drink as much, having a fresh source of water that they can drink from is really good for them.

You should also be feeding your rabbits about 2 cups per day of fruits and veggies. They love carrots, bananas, apples and grapes.

You also need to decide where your new pet is going to stay. If it's an indoor rabbit, than you don't really need to think about too much when it comes to cages. Bigger cages are always better, especially if you're housing more than one. The only recommendation I have is to try and find one with a deep bottom. This stops rabbits from peeing outside the cage and dirtying its surroundings. Of course, you could always just place the cage on a washable rug, or towel that you don't expect to use again.

Cleaning the cage is important for not just your benefit, they can start to smell pretty bad, but also the bunnies health.

If you plan to keep your rabbit outside, be sure to keep it in a hutch specifically designed for outside weather. These are usually solid wood, and raised. This is to ensure protection from the elements as well as any predators that may be lurking around your area.
