How to Make Urine Guards for Rabbit Cages

How to Make Urine Guards for Rabbit Cages. Some rabbits require training to use a litter box, while others naturally use a corner of their cage and nowhere else as a bathroom. Because your bunny may have bad aim on occasion, you should set up urine guards in your rabbit's cage. Plastic or metal urine guards can be purchased from pet supply stores, or you can make your own in only a few minutes.

With preparation, rabbits are an ideal indoor pet.

Things Needed

  • 4 untreated 8-by-8-inch pine boards
  • Drill
  • 4 plastic zip ties or metal rings

Step 1

Drill one hole at the top left corner of one of the pine boards about half an inch from the top and half and inch from the left edge. The hole needs to be large enough to pass the zip tie or metal ring through.

Step 2

Drill another hole at the top right corner of one of the pine boards about half an inch from the top and half and inch from the right edge.

Step 3

Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other three boards.

Step 4

Position two of the boards in the back left corner inside your rabbit's cage so the boards meet to form a solid corner. Orient the boards so the holes are at the top.

Step 5

Thread a zip tie or metal ring through each of the holes and around the wire of the rabbit cage to secure the boards onto the cage.

Step 6

Repeat steps 4 and 5 on the right side of the cage.
