If you are looking for instruction manuals or helpful tips for building a rabbit hutch then your search ends here. This article provides simple steps and tips for building a rabbit hutch.

Rabbit hutches are built as a replacement of natural environment for home bred bunnies. They have to be comfortable and cozy besides being large enough for accommodating a number of rabbits, it should also protect them from harsh weathers if kept outside. By deciding from the number of rabbits, a plan has to be sketched for the hutch with enough space for them. The reproduction of rabbits is quick and a larger rabbit hutch will be needed if there are plans for rabbit breeding. The measurements of the hutch and the materials needed for the project have to be estimated. Using treated wood pieces or galvanized wire mesh has to be considered instead of using plywood as untreated wooden materials absorb water and urine. It will affect the cleanliness of the environment and it may be a cause of spreading diseases. The wooden hutches are also not very long lasting and easy cleanable like galvanized wire mesh cages.

When all the required materials have been gathered, the project can be started with the frame of the hutch. The base piece and one of the side pieces have to be secured together for forming an L shape and they have to be nailed together. For the base piece, it is ideal to use a large piece of wired mesh clamped in a wooden frame. The droppings will fall on the ground instead of getting soaked in the wooden base. Same step has to be repeated for the opposite side piece. Next, the back and top piece have to be nailed to the U shaped frame what was earlier made. The inner parts of the treated plywood sheets might be needed to sand.

For the doors, a piece of wire mesh has to be laid that is cut according to the measurements of the door and one side has to be nailed between two pieces of plywood. Same step has to be repeated for the other three sides. It is supposed to look like a mesh wire window having wooden side panels. The door has to be attached to the front of the main frame and then the latch can be fixed. A good rabbit hutch should have good air ventilation. Finally, the hinged roof top and four legs can be attached to the frame. The legs have to be hammered to the ground where the hutch is preferred to be placed.

Adding few extra accessories to the hutch can also be considered, for instance, a partition or a retractable pen for collecting the waste of the rabbits so that the cleaning will be made easier. This is a basic simple procedure to build a rabbit hutch.
