Hi there,
wondering if you can use an animal water tank de-icer in your pond?

Answer
It should be okay as long as you make sure that the heating element cannot touch the liner or any other parts of the pond.  How big a hole it makes depends on the Wattage.  I have a page on pond winterizing at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/winter.htm
