Ill Goldfish Can We Save It?

Question
hi since a 8-9 year old fan tail mix of mine died of a stoke, his companion who we only adopted about 2 weeks ago (and is a black moor goldfish) has turned sort of grey and speckly (he is meant to be black) and the white of his belly and gills is starting to turn a bloody red. Also, one of his eyes has become clouded like a cataract or through blindness. We had the water tested and there seemed to be no problem there. Is the any way we can cure or save our new pet? Thankyou

Answer
I was sorry to read that you were disappointed in my answer. Yes, ick is very common.  However, I did not consider it from your description.  Ick causes tiny white spots all over.  Speckles of gray and a white belly didn't trigger in my mind the thought of ick.  Ick is not a bacteria so antibiotics will have no effect on it.  Ick is a parasite.  Ick does not cause popeye.  You said the eyes were cloudy but didn't mention that they were enlarged which would be a separate problem.  I am sorry you were disappointed in my response.  For future reference, it will help you to get more clear answers from other experts if you try to provide as much detail as possible.  I hope your fantail improves.  Good luck.
