Question
Which assortment of plants do you suggest for a 30 gallon aquarium with 3 20 watt bulbs?  I'm just a beginner, so beginner plants please.  Also,  I'm so confused with the CO2 thing.  Should I do a DIY method, buy the whole expert set of co2 supples, or whatever you suggest.  Please help me with my first live plants!  Sarah

Answer
Oh, I have a black thumb myself! My aquarium plant page is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/plants/decor.htm and it leaves much to be desired!

If you want great plants, you'll have to use CO2 injection.  I've never really done that myself so I'm afraid I'm not the best one to ask.  The plants I can keep alive are those that like low light levels like java moss, java fern, Anubias species, and Crypt species.

You have three 20 W fluorescent bulbs?  If so, that should be enough for some of the plants that like more light like wisteria, hornwort, ludwigia, and so on.  There are just so many plants!  Some do well in one aquarium and not another.  I wish I had better advise for you!!

Good luck!
