Question
Hi  I have a small fish pond (135 gal.) and have two water lilly plants that have not had a flower in five years, they are in 2gal. pots .
What is the proper care and what kind of dirt do I use if I buy new plants,; I think the old plant may be pot bound , I just clean the pond and the plants look as though they have tubers with root on top of the pot with the starting of new stems with leaves, I hope Ihave giving you enough information     Carl

Answer
Carl, I am assuming the lillies get some sunlight. With fish in the pond you should have enough nourishment for the plants. Whatever dirt is in the pot should be good enough. You may have a rare situation that they will not produce. Did you buy the lillies at the same place at the same time?
Try taking the plants out of their present pots and replanting in a pot with pond soil. Plant the tubers with the roots down. If the plants look healthy thery may be mis fits. Try a 3rd lilly and see if that grows. Basically sunlight and fish waste should make the lillies flourish assuming you have adequate sunliight.
