Question
Subject   Calcium growth
Question   We have a 55 gallon tank.  There are not many fish, but some larger fish (2 gold fish, a bala shark, a cat fish that has spots I forgot what it was called, and a very small solid silver cat fish).  My question is about a white growth forming all over the edges of the tank and filters.  It's been persistent for about 2 months now when you clean it off it just comes back.  I hate to mess with it much because it doesn't seem to be effecting the fish and as a novice at this hobby we have had terrible trouble establishing the tank and have not had much luck in adding fish since it has been established.  Any suggestions?

Answer   I have never had this problem with freshwater. Honestly I am not sure what you would do to remedy this. This is something I have only experienced with saltwater. I would recommend asking  another expert as I am not able to give you any justifiable answers. I am sorry for my lack of knowledge about this but I imagine another experts will surely know how to help you. Let me know if you need anything else. I hope another expert can help you.

I have that in my tank as well. Though I'm not sure exactly what it is. I think it's just build up of stuff that didn't get filtered out of the water. The best you can do is keep wiping it off. I have it on the suction cups around my heater...my filter and the endges of the tank. Even though it just comes back, I don't know of anything made to stop it.
