Question
what can posnious a horse ? i dont know i am bulding a paddok for a horse but it is next to some olive trees can they posio the horse?

Answer
Hi Tinkerbell;

There are lots of things poisonous to horses.  Usually, if they are provided with lots of food and water they leave those plants alone.

We don't have olive trees here where I live, so I don't know if they are poisonous or not.  I've never heard of them being poisonous.

Yew, walnut, cherry, buttercup, milkweed, rhuhbarb are poisonous.  But then only parts of some plants are poisonous and not others.  And sometimes plants are poisonous only at certain times of the year.  Goldenrod is poisonous, except after it's bloomed, then it's safe for them to eat.  Buttercup is poisonous unless it's cut and dried and then they can eat it....and so on...

It would be best to talk to your local extensions officer (your local feedmill should have a contact number for him) and they will know what plants are native and should be able to tell you which are toxic.

Best wishes!

Sincerely,

Lana Reinhardt
