Teaching a 6yr old to jump

Question
Hello, I'm Amanda. I'm 17 years old with tons of experience.  I have recently
bought a 6yr old QH gelding, who is trained in western.  When I bought him I
had wanted to train and show him in dressage, but now I really want to jump.
Do you think that's possible? I need a way to train him myself since I do not
have the money to get him training from someone else (I'm still paying of the
horse and paying board) I do not have access to ground/trotting poles.. just
logs and buckets, since I ride at a western barn.  I was just wondering if there
is anything I can do in the mean time.. until I'm able to move him to a english
style barn.
Thanks! :D

Answer
Hello Amanda,

You can have him clear some of the logs, but you really cannot train a horse to jump without the proper equipment.  I recommend that you hasten to an English stable as fast as you can manage it, unless the stable where you are will furnish jumping equipment.

Happy riding,
Dorothy
