clear wood finish

QUESTION: LISA, I BUILT SOME HORSE STALLS AND I AM GETTING READY TO PUT A WOOD SEALER ON THE 2 X 8 SOUTHERN YELLOW PINE WALLS.ARE THERE ANY SEALERS THAT ARE SAFE FOR HORSES? I WOULD LIKE TO PUT CWF WOOD SEALER ON THE WOOD, IS THIS SAFE?

ANSWER: Hi - The best thing to do would be to read the instructions carefully on any type of sealer you are going to use.  Is the wood in an area that horses may chew on it?  

I did some quick research on CWF (Flood brand) - it doesn't look bad - but it is to be used for outdoor uses only - not indoors.

You need to make sure that whatever you use is ok for indoor use - many product will still produce vapors (or 'off-gas') - so you need to make sure that you use the right product.

Hi - I would make sure you read the precautions on the label before using anything.  Also, your local retailer should be able to give you pointers on what would be good to use.

I have seen some finishes that flake off after a while - you want to make sure this doesn't do that.

You should review the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for whatever you plan on using.
