Rescued baby mouse

Question
I was digging in some sand while camping and came across a mouse burrow with a mom and 4 pups. I immediately left and from a few metres away i watched the mom take off with three of the little mouselets leaving one. I waited the rest of the day for her to come back and when she didnt i put the little guy in a fleece hat with a warm rock beneath it. We fed him some 1% milk with some cream cheese melted in it-didnt have anything else :/-and then rubbed his privates with a tissue and he went poo. We kept him in our tent that night and i fed him a couple more times, then we brought him home and he is now in some fleece scraps with a hand warmer and i fed him some 3.25% milk. He has a fair bit of gray fur covering his body, his tummy is still white and his eyes are still closed. I have a gerbil cage that i can use and i wanted to know what else to do, how to keep him warm constantly, how/what to feed him and til what age do we have to keep hi under constant care and help him go to the bathroom-that is the most important one. I go to school and there is no one in the house during the day so i dont know what to do...

Answer
Dear JJ,

Someone HAS to feed the baby every two hours or it will die. I hope you have understanding teachers. I hope you can do this. You can bring a hot water bottle with you and ought to be able to heat it up directly in a microwave (leave some air and some slack so it doesn't explode).

Let me give you both a link to when I have answered this question previously:

and a link to a wonderful video about raising babies:

If you look at the other videos by this person you will find about five about raising orphans. It is definitely worth it to watch all of them. There is usually a lot more information than the titles suggest.

If you have any questions not covered by these sources, let me know right away.

Good luck!
