Separating mom mouse from babies to drink

QUESTION: Hi have a female mouse that was very pregnant earlier this morning but that is not my concern it was that every time I would take her and nanny mouse out to get some water in the other cage. All of my male mice would try to hump her Is that normal? Can she get pregnant while she is pregnant?.....

Commet: she had her babies an hour ago and I wanted to test if they would try again but now they don't

1. Take the males out. She can get pregnant immediately after giving birth, and it is not good for her.

2. Some mice just have a genetic defect such that they have no eyes. i don't know of this in other animals. Anyway they will be fine as long as their cage only has one level. Mice use their whiskers as much as their eyes to get around. Don't change the arrangement of the cage very often.

I find handicapped mice to be super special...

QUESTION: Oh well I have her in a divider tank unfortionly only one water bottle and it is one level thanks bit won't when they older they won't be able to see there mom?

Dear Xaziea,

Please get a second water bottle. Mice need to be able to drink at will. It is very stressful for the mother mouse. And never put the females with the males. One quick hump is all it takes. And the babies and mom need access all the time. Mice nurse every 30 minutes and it is also very stressful for them to be apart. Please don't move the mom any more or separate her from her babies.

Until you can get a second water bottle, keep mom and babies with water bottle and give the other mice a small dish with water. You will need to change it often, because they will throw the litter into it by accident. Make sure they can't fall in and drown. This is why you can't put the dish in with mom. Her babies will fall in.
