female dog aggression

Question
I have four wonderful dogs. 2 males and 2 females, i have had three of them together for 6 years. The other night my daughter let them out in our back yard to potty and the two females got into a fight. I am not sure why and would like to know if there is anything that i could do to prevent this other than actually going out there each time we let them out to just potty. Is there specific reason why they would fight? I know that the one male dog that i have shows the younger male who is dominate but he never hurts him in anyway. This would be a first in the females. I love them very much and hate the aggression they showed. What should i do?

Answer
Dogs disagree for a variety of reasons, just like people do. There was something that they had going on that you were not privy to which led to their disagreement. Here's a link on my web site for you regarding aggressive behavior http://www.outlawchinooks.com/aggression.html It is an overview, but should help get you started on determining if this will be ongoing or a one time thing.

As a general rule, the girls are more likely to really fight than the boys. The males are more apt to posture and show some bravado.

Hope that helps you out some.
