Aggressive adopted 3 year old cocker

Question
Adopted a sweet approx 18 month old rescue about a tear ago.
He is very needy and possessive of me, on my lap whenever I,m sitting. Growls at my two adult son or husband if they lean over me, and occassionally snaps at them. I put him down immediately when this happens, but the problem seems to be worse now that my two sons are home only occassionally. Reilly is neutered and is very affectionate to me, or my husband and sons when he is not on my lap. I have another adopted cocker male, and they get along well and Reilly will alow him on my lap at the same time.

Answer
Well...there's the long answer or the short answer :)

The short answer is Reilly is no longer allowed on your lap.

The long answer involves training and teaching Reilly that ALL the humans in the house are pack leaders and he is NOT.

What you need to understand is that when he's on YOU...you and the furniture "belong to him" and he's just correcting/disciplining others who don't get that.  This isn't need or possessiveness...it's dominance...with a display of aggressiveness tossed in for effect.

I'd suggest not putting up with this since at his age it can accelerate.  Because it's very specific and he's otherwise a good boy this isn't a huge training problem but, in my opinion, I'd settle it now.

Let me know and I can tell you how to get this idea out of his head.
