Breeding Maltese

Question
QUESTION: We were keeping a 6lb Maltese from a 4lbs female Maltese, but they managed to breed, and locked for 40min.  This is her first litter and his 6th, he has bred tiny puppies everytime.  Assuming she is pregnant, should we go through with the pregnancy?
Could you please tell me, when the French vets write Bichon Maltais, is it just another name for Maltese?  I thought they were 2 distinctly different breeds, but I've been told that this is the proper French way of writing Maltese, could you please explain this?

ANSWER: Are you saying that they are mother and son  if so the Kc may not give you a KC far too close.Canine termination isnt simple and carries many risks so I would just go with it and see if the Kc can be attained if not sell them on and place endorsements on papers so they cant be bred for profit.
I have some good veterinary articles on this subject in my site

its free to join and hey may be of some help.
Spelling is French and how the FCI spell the canine breed, same dog though.
Good luck

QUESTION: They are not even related  but the Male is 6 lbs and female only 4 lbs, WILL THERE BE A BIG PROBLEM with DELIVERY locking  for 40 minutes.  I am not French the vet was in Quebec. What does Kc mean is that kennel club because they are not registered either.  We are just concerned the puppies will be to big for her and is there a chance that she could die in delivery or is 2 lb difference since he has small puppies anyway not a Problem.
ANSWER: Hi Carolyn
It is not really an issue how long they stay locked , It does not bear any relevance to how the sizing of pups will be.The fact that one is 6lbs and one is 4lbs should not be a problem at birth. What i di suggest is keep the bitch weight down during her pregnancy as this may lead to blood pressure problems .
If you would like more help please log into mys ite as it has ots of whelp advice of which you can download and print off to keep safe for after the 9 weeks of pregnancy.

I you think that the bitch is carrying a large litter either by size or individual size then I suggest a scan at about 7 weeks into the pregnancy. DONOT do it too early as it has been known to cause re absorption .

QUESTION: I'm not clear on this Bichon Maltese. or Maltais.  Bichons are much bigger than Maltese , buff coloring and kinky coat.  How can they be connected with Maltese. I thought they were distinctly two different breds.  I read that in 1620 is when maltese were bred down from Bichon. but were in the 2000's  Can you clarify

Answer
Hi CArolynI think that you are becoming confused , So to clarify the Bichons breeds have 7 in the group they are the Bichon Maltese commonly called Maltese
Bichon Havanese  ''       ''    Havanese
Bichon Frise      ''      '' Bichon
Lowchen
Bichon Bolognese    ''   '' Bolognese
Tsvetyana Bologna      (russian)
Coton De Tulear
Al these dogs are strikingly different but ALL do belong to the same group known as Bichons

They were ALL bred from probably one type of curly white dog and they travelled throughout Europe and the wider world with sailors and hey were bred with their own local dogs . Hence although very similar hey are also very different. Many are similar in size > I have seen 11lb Maltese and 6lb Bichons all will depend on  the lines being used.

I do hope this helps
