Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I have a 9 years old female dog. She is very active and happy dog. Eat properly, likes to play and walk outside the house. However there are some very funny-strange stuff with her I would like to know if there is any explanations to: I am living in a two-floor house. When I am sitting in the lower floor and the door is closed, my dog many time sits behind it and cries until I open the door. If I keep the door open, nothing happens, she just enters the roo and sit in her sofa. But, If right after I let her in, I close the door then the dog enters the room, turn around, give a strange look at the closed door, try to sniff it perhaps, and starts to cry until I open it so she can get out. Again, If I will keep it open so she can get in again - everything is OK. But if I close the door, she will start crying until I'll let her in again, and then... you know - if I shut the door, she cries again... This is very strange and a little annoying. Do you have any explanation?

ANSWER: Hi Hanan, You did not say what breed she is, but I suspect that she is concerned about being able to be protective of the whole house. She seems to want the door open so that she can know what is going on everywhere. If it is difficult for you to keep the door open, you could try to give her lots of attention and play time when the door is shut so that she gets her mind off the door. I do suspect that it is a teritorial behavior and she just wants to have control of protecting all of "her" territory. That would be my best guess, not being able to see her. Hope my explanation helps. Please leave me some feedback, nominations if you wish, and let me know how things go. The only rewards we get for volunteering so many hours a day at this site is to know we have made a difference in the lives of people and their pets. Keep me posted please, you can simply repost a follow up. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Regards, Susan

QUESTION: Hi,
Just wanted to thank. I didn't think about the option she is just trying to protect the house. Perhaps you are right...
Thank you.
