My daughters dog is very well trained, and house broken, stays in it's kennel when he should, get exercise in morning and afternoon, but each time we let him out of his kennel, he runs out them runs back and get pet bed that he has been laying on drags over the house then settles down for a good gnaw on it..

Next time you let him out of his crate (and I certainly hope he's never crated more than three hours at a time as this is NOT humane), get to the "pet bed" before he does.  Pick it up and replace it with a large stuffed dog plush toy (that he's only allowed to have at this time).  Within a couple of weeks, the dog should begin to choose the toy (if you begin leaving it near the crate) instead of the pet bed.  You're most likely seeing a very nice dog referring excitement to see you and be let out of his crate to a neutral object.  Don't worry about it.
