Question
My boyfriend and i just got a new dog from the pound last week, he also just got nutuered on the 27th. He's a chihuahua/pug about 2 years old. He's well mannered and recovering well from his surgery. The only thing is he pees randomly. Almost as if he can't control it. At first i thought maybe it was just nervousness but he does it even when he is relaxed. If you feel like this is a vet question i understand but i tried calling and they were closed today. So, if you have any advice i would love to know what you think.
                                       Thank you.

Answer
Take the dog to the veterinarian; a phone call won't do it.  Because he appears to be incontinent (from your description), a checkup can't hurt.  However, there is a reason this dog was in the 'pound' and you might be seeing it.  Housetraining a dog is not difficult, providing the dog WILL urinate and defecate in front of you outdoors (and from your description I don't think this will be a problem.)  Simply reward EVERY SINGLE TIME he urinates and defecates outdoors with a word of praise AND a very small tidbit of treat (something special, like fat free cheese.)  Indoors, you can use a belly band (available on the internet) but ONLY when you are at home; keep the dog confined to the kitchen, where inappropriate urination can be easily cleaned.  DO NOT reprimand the dog for urinating indoors or he will stop urinating in front of you outdoors.  Dogs always repeat the most rewarding behavior, although in an adult dog fully housetraining him might take months (at most.)  If you consistently reward his outdoor elimination with praise and treats, and if you give him FAIR opportunity to go outdoors, meaning every three hours at first, slowly extending to every five hours (and YOU MUST GO OUT WITH HIM even though the weather is bad, it's the only way he will learn), he will quickly learn that eliminating outdoors is much more rewarding than indoors, despite the fact that he has to wait.
