Yellow Lab VS. Old English Bulldogge

Question
We have a 5 yr old hipper(still) yellow lab. We recieved a 9 month old, old english bulldogge in December. We introduced the dogs together and they seem to hit it off great. Latly over the last couple months, I have noticed our yellow lab attacks at the bulldogge back skin on her neck and drags her across the yard or the room. They are both females. This conserns me as I think it is to protect the family. The neighbor kids came over yesterday and the bulldogge jumped on one of the kids to greet them as a puppy might do. The lab came from across the yard and grab at the bulldogge and drug her acroos the yard. I yelld and through a ball at them. I had to pull them apart. I was scared, as the neighbors looked on. I was not sure what to say. Please help....

Answer
Oddly, I would have expected you to be asking about aggression from the Bulldogge, not directed at the Bulldogge by the Lab.  Bulldogges have fewer breathing problems than the English Bulldog, but somtimes they do exhibit same sex aggression especially, as they are bred from a mix of the Bulldog, Pit Bull, Mastiff and American Bulldog.  One possibility is that your older dog is no longer considering the Bulldogge as a puppy, having now reached the age of sexual maturity.  Another possibility is that they are playing a bit too roughly (both are pain-insensitive breeds and what looks like it would hurt often doesn't) I would have to see the interaction to know if it's worrisome, but if you are concerned, my advice would be to seek help from a local behaviorist (IAABC has a listing on their website).
