Male Bichon Humping

Question
I am considering adoption of a 2 1/2 yr old male purebred Bichon Frise. The owner hasn't had time for him and has kept him outside for a long time so he isn't housebroken & he humps everything. He isn't fixed yet either. If I adopt him I plan to have him fixed right away, will that help with the humping? How hard will it be to break him of that and how would I go about doing it? Also, since he's an adult, is it still possible to housebreak him, as I would like him to be an indoor family dog.

Answer
As much as I hate to say it (on behalf of the dog who has been SERIOUSLY neglected and abused -- keeping a Bichon, or ANY dog, outside is abuse), do NOT ADOPT THIS DOG.

Find a reputable (with incorporation in your state) rescue organization which fosters dogs in private homes and adopt a dog from them.  There are MANY such organizations all over the US.  The foster "parent" will have begun to house train (if the dog isn't already house trained), will know the dog's personality, and will be able to determine whether or not the dog is suitable for your lifestyle.  You want a PET, not a PROBLEM, and the Bichon you are considering is going to be a HUGE problem.
