Question
My Christmas dream of owning a English bulldog is now upon me but came in an unconventional way.  We are adopting a 3 year old female.  She is so beautiful but the current owners says she is a bit touchy and aggressive around other animals (their other bulldog) and she has snapped at children.  I have a 4 year old.  I want so bad to make this placement work that I am willing to put much work and effort into behavior modification, if I only knew what to do. I also must teach my son not to approach her until she gets use to her new home and us.  I worry.  The arrangements have already been made and we are going to get her tomorrow.

Answer
you are making a serious mistake.  Knowingly bringing a child aggressive dog into your home, because you have a "dream" of owning an English bulldog, is absurd.  A bit "touchy" and "aggressive" around other dogs, and having demonstrated ACTIVE AGGRESSION toward children, makes this dog a clear and present danger.  NOTHING I, OR ANYONE ELSE ON THE INTERNET, CAN SAY CAN HELP THIS SERIOUS BEHAVIORAL PROBLEM.  If you INSIST on going ahead with this adoption, find a certified, applied animal behaviorist ASAP (NOT a dog trainer! you need a professional with credentials) and be prepared to spend money to attempt to correct what may be at least partially inherited, coupled with total lack of socialization in an adult dog whose breed has been OVER PRODUCED by money hungry, moronic individuals who don't know the first thing about breeding, temperament, socializing dogs, etc.  THIS IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN and you are putting your CHILD in harm's way.
