Question about dog defecating in ceratin area.

Question
We have a three year old Golden Retriever that wants to constantly defecate in the grass right next to our patio.  Our yard is fairly large and I would like to get her to start defecating at the back of the yard so the smell and the chance of steeping in it won't be so bad since we do not get a chance to clean it up everyday.  Is there anything product or procedure we can use in the patio area to make her go to the back of the yard?  Thanks.

Answer
There is no product that can facilitate this.  However, you can MOVE the stool (literally pick it up and move it) to the location you prefer.  You would then have to accompany the dog on every outing (until you ascertain the time of day she produces stool) and reward her for eliminating NEAR the place you have chosen.  Her selection of a place to eliminate might be a form of marking behavior (since dogs who are able to choose most often choose the perimeters of the property).  If you see resistance (after many weeks) of your efforts, you might repost with more information regarding your dog's overall behavior so I can determine if this is, indeed, a marking behavior.
