aggressive toward cats

Question
Dear Jill,

I have a female Jindo, about 9 years old.  She's the sweetest dog in the world.  But Jindo's have a powerful prey drive.  It so happens that my ex wife and son (he lives with her) just got a cat.  It would be really great if my dog could still visit... but I'm worried there might be horrible violence.  Is there a safe way we could begin to introduce the dog and cat to one another?  Is this even a realistic idea?  Your help is much appreciated.

Paul

Answer
This is simply IMPOSSIBLE.  Any breed with extremely high prey drive needs to be heavily socialized to animals which are, themselves, prey.  That kitten will be terrified and will RUN.  Your dog WILL CHASE, catch, and possibly hurt (or be hurt by) the cat.  Your dog can still visit, providing the cat is confined (with locked door) to another room during the visit.
