Question
I adopted sam (2yr female) three days ago. She sleeps constantly on the couch, will not respond, move, wag. When I call she ignores me. She is so depressed I have to carry her out to pee or to bed. She has no interest in exploring her new home...should I seek prozak??

Answer
I don't know from whom you adopted this dog.  It's quite possible she's not well.  If you took her from a municipal kill shelter, she could be psychologically blitzed.  It appears to me she is terrified and this could be the result of former abuse or severe neglect or a very, very difficult time she's just experienced.  Three days is nothing; it takes an adult dog sometimes months to adjust to a new environment.  Take her to the veterinarian ASAP.  There could be some underlying physical problem.  You may be overwhelming her emotionally; she could be demonstrating a freeze fear response.  See if she's physically healthy first; if she checks out fine, drugs aren't the answer.  You need to take a softer approach and give this dog a lot of time.
