2 year old chocolate lab

In the past two weeks Joey has defecated while he's been asleep.  First I thought I had slept heavily and didn't hear him try to wake me.  Yesterday evening )around 2a.m. I was awake and thought I smelled a pretty potent fart that lingered.  When I looked over the side of the bed I noticed Joey had defecated and he didn't awake until I started cleaning up.  Have you ever heard of this and what do you recommend I do?  Is it possible he is sick?  He show's not other symptoms for me to think he is ill.

I think you need to talk to your vet about this. When such problems show up, there's often a physical reason. I had one older dog who did this, and he was having mild seizures in his sleep.
